Episode 33: The Shining

1/24/2016

Warning: Adult language and content.

Camela Thompson and Z.D. Gladstone venture into one of Z.D.'s least favorite genres: Horror! The Shining is a classic in the literary and film worlds, but the two are very different. The cohosts discuss the virtues and quirks of the book, the contrasts to the movie, and King's ability to capture the nuances and pains involved in addiction.

This week's geeky query: Which psychic ability would you like to have and why? Also, what ability would you not like to have?

Episode 18: Seances

Warning: This episode contains some adult language.

Camela Thompson and Z.D. Gladstone look at the history of seances, primarily the Spiritualist surge in the United States. While they do discuss many fraudulent cases, both acknowledge they aren't sure where they stand on the topic, nor do they want to discourage people from their beliefs. No matter where people land, seances can add some great tension to a fictional plot, and there are a lot of great examples.

Warning: There are adult themes and language in this podcast.

This week Camela Thompson is joined by Lance Thompson and Dr. Steve Matthewson to discuss horror movies. Their assignment was to watch Insidious, Insidious: Chapter 2, Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, and Big Ass Spider. Because of the array of movies covered, they discuss many more films, the tropes in horror, and why we are drawn to fear.

Episode 9: Ghosts and Demons

Warning: This podcast contains adult language and themes

This week Father Les Carpenter, an Episcopalian priest, joins Z.D. Gladstone and Camela Thompson to discuss the presence of ghosts and demons in this world. He explains his belief that demonic influences look less like what Hollywood presents and more like corruption in power and negative social phenomenon. Racism was used as an example, and the cohosts found the argument very interesting. The haunting at Camela's house, why people seek to make spiritual connections, and his interesting opinion on Halloween were also topics of conversation.

We'd love to hear from you if you have any topic ideas, suggestions, feedback, or true stories you would like to contribute. If your email is particularly compelling, we may invite you to be a guest on the show. Contact us using the Contact tab or the email icon at the top of the screen.
